Full Academy Member Alejandro Pedrós passed away yesterday in Barcelona at the age of 70. President of the Cercle Financer of La Caixa since 1976, Pedrós played an active role during the transition on forming part of the committee headed by Federico Mayor Zaragoza for studying a special system for Catalonia (1976-1977) and of being the consultant for Catalonia at the Ministry of Territorial Administration (1981-1982).
The ex Governor of the Bank of Finland Sirkka Hämäläinen highlighted the need for the European Central Bank (ECB) to set up a body such as the recently created European Consulting Board for Systematic Risk in order to regulate and supervise actions in the financial markets and to recommend to member states of the European Union on steps to be taken on financial risks. She said during her acceptance into the Royal Academy of the Economics and Financial Sciences of Spain (RACEF).
Jaime Gil Aluja, President of the Royal Academy of Economic and Financial Sciences of Spain (RACEF), will be presented next June 3 with the Gaudí-Gresol Award for Prestige and Excellence that is granted by the Gresol Foundation and the Reus City Hall in the category of Economy.
