Eric Maskin, Nobel Economy Prize winner for 2007, becomes a member of the Real Academia de Ciencias Económicas y Financieras
The renowned North American economist, His Excellency Dr. Eric Maskin Nobel Prize winner for Economy for 2007, will on October 5th next become Foreign Member for the United States of America of the Real Academia de Ciencias Económicas y Financieras (Racef) at a Solemn Act presided over by the President of the Academy Jaime Gil Aluja, who at the same time will be the sponsor for the new Member.
The investiture will take place at 19:30 in the Assembly Hall of the Fomento de Trabajo Nacional in Barcelona (Via Laietana 31, principal) headquarters of Racef. The nominee, born on December 12, 1950 in New York, has a very extensive university career. Graduated in Mathematics at Harvard University in 1972, he received his Doctorate in Applied Mathematics in 1976 and did a Masters Degree at Cambridge University in 1977. Since the year 2000 he has been Professor of Social Sciences at Princeton University. During his long research career what stands out is the development of the theoretical basis drawn up by Leonid Hurwicz: the theory of implementation that allows for the designing of a mechanism so that all the possible results of any process, economic or otherwise, result as optimum, in this way surpassing the doctrine set by Adam Smith. For his the Nobel Foundation recognised him along with Leonid Hurwicz and Roger B. Myerson, who also perfected the theory in the year 2007.
