Full Academy Member Manuel Castells has been appointed a member of the Academic Council of the Library of Congress of the United States, the most prestigious in the country. Professor Emeritus for Planning at the University of Berkley, where he taught and did research during 24 years, Castells, in this way joins the consultant body for all relevant academic and research matters of the Washington Library.

Academician of the Real Academia de Ciencias Económicas y Financieras (RACEF) since 2006, Castells is also a founding member of the Scientific Board of the Council of Europe for Research and a director of the Internet Interdisciplinary Institute for the Univesitat Oberta of Catalonia (UOC) among other academic responsibilities.
