Professor successively of Economic Structure at the University of Barcelona and of Applied Economics in the Complutense of Madrid. Rector of the Hispano-American University of Santa María de La Rábida (1974-1977). Director of the Asturian School of Hispanic Studies of the University of Oviedo. Since January 2015, he is president of the Real Academia de Ciencias Morales y Políticas. Professor Emeritus of the Complutense University of Madrid and San Pablo CEU. Counselor of the Tribunal de Cuentas (1991). President of the Real Sociedad Geográfica (2002). Vice-president of the Real Sociedad Económico Matritense de Amigos del País.
